Visiting the shop

Do you have a storefront?
We do, but we are temporarily closed to visitors for the safety of both you and our staff. We have curbside pick available for local and visiting customers, and we will always keep you updated on any re-opening plans or changes in pickup hours!

Does your store have parking?
We are located in a residential area and street parking is readily available!

Is your store accessible?
Yes! Our store is one level and there are no steps in or out. There is a very small ramp up to the front door, and we have an accessible bathroom.

Using Our Website

How do I order a specific amount of fabric?
On each fabric product page, there is a pair of drop-down menus underneath the price of that fabric. These two menus determine the length of the cut you are ordering. The first is for full yards, and the second is for partial yards. For example, if you would like to order two yards of a fabric, select '2' from the first menu, and '0' from the second. Or if you'd like a half-yard cut only, choose '0' from the first menu, and '1/2' from the second! One more example: if you'd like 1 3/4 yards, choose '1' from the first menu, and '3/4' from the second!

Choose your amount before you click 'add to cart'. The default amount is one full yard. Your can also edit amounts from within your cart before checkout. 

The choices available in the drop-down menus reflect our current stock levels of any given fabric. If you are not able to choose '5' from the first menu, that means we have less than 5 yards in stock of that particular fabric.

All pieces are cut as one continuous length.

Do you cut continuous pieces of fabric?
Yes! However, sometimes there are splits on bolts that we don’t know about until we cut an order, although this is rare. If we’re low on a fabric and are unable to provide a continuous cut, we will always check with you before shipping and will refund your order if that doesn’t work for your project.

Can I order multiple cuts of the same fabric?
No, if you would like one fabric cut into several pieces, you would need to place multiple orders.

Bummer! What I want is sold out / I want more yardage than you have available! Will you be restocking?
Not all items can be restocked, but please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to check on or request a restock and we’ll see what we can do!

Can I order a fat quarter of fabric?
We do not currently offer 1/4 yard cuts due to time and financial restraints, but we do occasionally add pre-cut fat quarters to the website in limited quantities, as well our our own staff-curated Fat Quarter bundles!

Can I order swatches?
Unfortunately, we cannot swatch fabrics at this time. We do our best to provide accurate photos and as much information as possible for you to order the right fabrics.

Do you take special orders for fabrics?
At this time, we are not able to take special orders for fabrics, but if we run out of something that you’re interested in, please feel free to contact us and we’ll see if we are able to restock it.

Can I buy a gift card?
Absolutely! We think that would make a wonderful gift! Please go here to purchase the amount you would like. You will be emailed a digital certificate that you can print and gift, or forward to the recipient.

What is your privacy policy?
We do not share or sell information, and will only send email marketing if you elect to sign up for our email newsletter. In the future, will be tracking customer activity in order to offer frequent buyer discounts, but this will be an opt-in rewards system.


I'm in / visiting Pittsburgh! Can I pick up my order at your shop?
Of course! Collection times are TUESDAY - FRIDAYS, 1-6pm, and SATURDAY 12-3pm. Just select curbside pickup at checkout and you will not be charged for shipping. Please note that you will receive an email when your order is ready for pickup; we can’t promise it will be ready for you if you come before you receive this email.

When will my order ship?
We pack and process Priority orders within 3 business days. Standard shipping orders are processed within one week. We do not pack or ship on holidays or weekends.

I'm taking a class at Cut & Sew, how do I get supplies?
Yay! That's so fun! We generally supply everything needed for classes at Cut & Sew Studio, and the class supply lists will always be on the relevant class page at the Cut & Sew website. Your teacher should answer questions about projects, but of course we can help you shop if needed! Shoot us an email with your questions!

Many people don't realize that we are not just sister businesses, we are literally right next door to Cut & Sew! In the same building! If you are shopping online for class supplies, for yourself or for a child in one of their kids' classes, you are more than welcome to pick up your materials during class! Simply let your teacher know at the beginning of class, and they will grab your bag for you! Be sure to choose 'curbside pickup' at checkout, so that you are not charged shipping.

What are your shipping rates?
We look for the cheapest solutions using USPS Priority, and automatically issue a refund for the difference if your shipping ends up costing less! 

For orders up to $25 you can choose standard shipping for $4.00 (1-2 weeks), or Priority shipping for $7.55 (2-5 days).
Orders $26 to $100 cost $7.55 for Priority shipping.
Orders $101 to $200 cost $15 for Priority shipping.
Orders $201 to $275 cost $18 for Priority shipping.
Orders over $275 qualify for free shipping!

Do you ship internationally?
Unfortunately, at this time we can only ship within the US.

Can I pay extra for expedited shipping?
Unfortunately, not at this time. We do our best to ship items ASAP, but make sure to keep our shipping times in mind when ordering fabrics!


Can I return unwanted items?
We will accept returns for store credit on unopened kits and notions within 14 days of purchase. Original shipping charge is non-refundable and buyer pays return shipping. There are no returns on fabric.

Can I cancel my order?
We’ll do our best to cancel any order if it’s not already been cut. Please reach out to us as soon as possible and we’ll see what we can do!

What if I ordered the wrong product?
If you have not yet received your order, please reach out to us and let us know as soon as possible. If you have already received your order, we accept returns for store credit on unopened kits and notions. There are no returns on fabric.

Oh no! There's a mistake in my order!
We’re so sorry! Please let us know right away if this happens and, of course, if we get your order wrong we will correct it with no extra cost to you. Get in touch at!


Will you hem my jeans? Fix the hole in my shorts? Make curtains for me?
Nope! We do not offer tailoring or repair services, but check out Cut & Sew Studio to learn some sweet new sewing skills and tackle that fix-it project yourself. We are not able to recommend a local tailor or alterations expert, but a Google search should get you what you need!

Do you have sales?
We try to keep our fabric prices as low as possible, and also source discounted deadstock fabrics to help fabric prices affordable. We do have occasional sales, but cannot tell you specifically when or what will be in the sale beforehand.

Do you donate fabric gifts for raffles/NGOs?
We do! We love to support Pittsburgh based nonprofits! We’re not able to donate every time, but please email us at with your request.


Do you offer classes?
Our shop shares a space with Cut & Sew Studio, a fully-equipped sewing studio that offers wonderful classes, ranging from an introduction to sewing to advanced pattern-making! Check out their classes page for more info. (P.S. We share a space but not an owner! :) Please direct class-specific questions to their website!)
